Projects

My creative works shown on the following pages give a sense of my grappling with loss and how to represent the liminal threshold of death. Each project represents a different element of this space. I have come to believe that when viewing different things, the space between what we see has as much to say that do the main subjects. Consider an early photo showing places which no longer exist or people who are long dead and we have forgotten their stories. View that image alongside a more recent shot. The space between those two images is not empty but is filled with time and lost memory.

Journey to the crimea

I look at the life of a distant relative from brief glimpses found in historical records. A cavalry soldier in the Crimean War, he died aged 26 and is buried in an unmarked grave.

Medical Scans Re-imagined

I re-imagine the medical scan, taking it out of the hands of medical professionals and giving it new meanings on the walls of art galleries and as children’s games.

Scatter

This work attempts to capture a visual sense at the threshold between life and death. This project deals with the themes of death, loss, grief and memory.

The Corruption of Death

An experimental work that looks for the similarity between corruption of the visual image, corruption of memory and the corruption of the mind in old age and of the flesh after death.
