Résumé
I am Richard Dalgleish. I am a Scottish artist originally from Edinburgh but now working in East Lothian. I studied Physics before a career in Financial IT, then slowly shifted away from science and technology towards artistic expression, although, as there is a huge overlap between science and art, I haven’t burned my computer just yet and make use of digital as well as analogue tools to capture and manipulate my work. As a mature student, I completed my undergraduate study of Photography at the distance learning institution, the Open College of the Arts.
During my study, I experienced a period of traumatic grief after the death of my daughter to cancer, which set the direction of my research and creative interests. My art is centred around photography, both traditional and digital, but I also experiment with mixed media, video and installation, which I use to evoke themes around loss and grief, memory, family history and the forgotten. My creative endeavours complement my interest in death studies. My creative works aim to portray a representation of the time and space surrounding death, a theme that has been inescapable throughout the history of art.
